Career coaching + your emotions
You’re here, intrigued by career coaching and what it can offer you.
Just a few things to consider, before you get started…
The best news is we are all unique and so is our view of the world. The way you see your career is going to be very subjective, and it’s likely no one else will view your journey the same.
Our subjectivity is natural; it stems from things that have likely influenced us - cultural, our childhood upbringing, mindset, expectations and our own unique life experiences.
Let’s take your role or a previous role, you may find that it’s incredibly boring, while your friend or work colleague, in a similar role really loves theirs - not every role is going to please everyone - and that’s OK.
And our subjectivity isn’t a bad thing, it will likely serve us well when we need to endure tough times because of a belief, for example.
Yet sometimes it can place unnecessary stumbling blocks in our way.
How to overcome those stumbling blocks?
Understanding the emotional landscape is an essential part of the career coaching process because managing your career can be very challenging mentally. It often involves doing things outside of our normal comfort zones - and this can be draining.
Your emotions can be great at propelling you into action mode but can sometimes make things more difficult than they need to be.
You’ll need to raise your awareness on the emotional forces at play when deciding on what support and action you now want to take in reaching your career goals. You may find that these pop up repeatedly as you continue in your career coaching journey.
If you’re aware of their influence then you can decide whether you want them to exercise their power over you or not.
Stay in control of your career momentum (aware of your emotions + keeping them in check) and move forwards with a clear set of sustainable goals, positive habits and a well thought through plan.
A career partnership could be just what you need.
